General Info

National Institute for Applied Research in Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine was created through the merger and reorganization of the Public Institution Institute of Pedology, Agrochemistry, and Soil Protection "Nicolae Dimo," the Public Institution Scientific-Practical Institute of Horticulture and Food Technologies, the Public Institution Scientific-Practical Institute of Biotechnology in Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, the Public Institution Center for Animal Breeding and Reproduction, including the Center for Research on Aquatic Genetic Resources "ACVAGENRESURS" (with branch status), and the Public Institution State Commission for Plant Variety Testing, in accordance with Government Decision No. 668 of 09-25-2024.

The Institute's mission is to carry out applied and fundamental research, innovation, testing and implementation activities in the agri-food sector, veterinary medicine and food safety, based on the principles of environmental and natural resource protection, on the conservation and development of agrobiocenoses and the genetic fund, in order to achieve harmless agricultural production and the sustainable development of agriculture and the rural environment.

The Institute's general areas of competence are the following:
– food security – the development of agricultural technologies and practices to ensure sufficient food production in the context of global population growth;
– adaptation to climate change – identifying solutions to manage the impact of climate change on agriculture and to develop crops, breeds and hybrids resistant to variable climatic conditions;
– resource efficiency – identifying ways to efficiently use water, soil, feed, additives and agricultural inputs;
– protection of soil and water resources – sustainable use, increasing the production potential of soils and optimizing the nutrition of agricultural plants;
– sustainability – scientific research and implementation of environmentally friendly sustainable agri-food practices, including the bioconversion of agri-food waste and the rational use of products obtained from it;
– plant, animal and aquaculture health – identification, prevention and control of diseases and pests;
– development of the genetic pool – management and maintenance of horticultural and animal genetic resources under conditions of adaptation and climate resilience;
– technological innovation – promoting innovative agri-food technologies, using information technologies, artificial intelligence and biotechnology;
– technology transfer – developing efficient mechanisms for the rapid transfer of technologies and knowledge in the field of agricultural research to farmers and practitioners in the field;
– testing new plant varieties;
– representing the Republic of Moldova, together with the National Food Safety Agency, at the sessions of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants, as well as in other international and intergovernmental organizations for the protection of plant varieties, maintaining bilateral and multilateral cooperation relations with them.
